Importing and adding portfolio companies

Investor Plus is Dealum's personal portfolio hub designed for individual angel and early-stage investors.

There are three ways to set up your Investor Plus portfolio of companies.

  1. Add a single company. If you upload an investment contract at the same time, our AI assistant will detect the details and add the round for you.
  2. Upload all your investments in one import from Excel. You can use our portfolio template to ensure the most accurate results.
  3. Bring in your investments from other deal rooms. If you have existing investments in other deal rooms, you can easily import them into your personal Investor Plus deal room.

You can combine these methods and there are shortcuts to all three approaches on the Investor Plus dashboard.

Tip: Start with one or two companies first and use the AI assistant to automatically extract round details from an uploaded document.

Add a single company investment

You can add new a company investment and associated documents to your Investor Plus portfolio from both the Dashboard and the Portfolio sections.

Open your deal room and log in if needed. When entering your Investor Plus deal room, you will first see a Dashboard which consists of four main sections:

  • Getting started guide
  • Portfolio
  • Deal flow
  • Updates

The Portfolio section of the Dashboard has a shortcut to add a new investee company to your personal portfolio.

  • Click Add new investment on the right of the Portfolio section, or in the Getting Started guide as shown:

  • Type the company name carefully. Company name autocomplete will only show if you already have a company in your portfolio or funnel (which is unlikely when you add your very first companies to the deal room).

  • You can also upload your investment contract at this stage. Click the purple Upload file button to add your investment contract or term sheet — our AI assistant will extract and complete the round details for you. You can add this later if the document isn't immediately available.

  • Click the blue Add company button to complete.

A new company investment can also be added from the main landing page of the Portfolio, in the Investments section.

This works as before:

  • Enter the company name
  • Click the purple Upload file button if you wish to add your investment contract or term sheet — our AI assistant will extract and complete the round details for you.
  • Click Add company to complete.

The terms 'add company' and 'add investment' are used interchangeably when adding a company investment into the portfolio for the first time. If you want to add an additional investment round to a company that already appears in your list of portfolio investments, click on the company name to access the respective company’s section of the Portfolio.

Import an investment portfolio from Excel

If your investment portfolio is in an Excel document, you can import this in part or in full to your Investor Plus deal room. This can be done from the main Portfolio landing page, or directly from the Getting started section of the Dashboard.

On the Dashboard, you may need to click the Next arrows to move through one or more Getting started options to reach the Import from Excel button. If you have closed the Getting started section by previously clicking on the X, you can reopen it by clicking the blue Getting started text that will appear in the top right corner.

You can click Get template to download and use Dealum’s template to ensure best import results. (This step is not essential, and if you are ready you can go straight to Upload).

If you select Get template, the file will download to your local device, where you can populate the template document with your own information as you wish. The Company name is the only required field - you can populate any other information at a later point if you choose, in the respective company’s Portfolio section.

If you prefer to use your own pre-existing Excel template, we recommend you limit the document to a single tab and match the column heading field names to those on the Dealum template (for example Company, Round name, Type) to allow for accurate matching during the data extraction process.

When you are ready to import your Excel file, click Upload from the Dashboard Getting Started section shown above. You can also import the Excel file directly from the main Portfolio page shown below - click the Import/export text in the top right and select Import from Excel from the list.

The results will appear in your main Portfolio list of Investments. It is recommended you click on a selection of the company names to check the data has correctly imported. You can add, edit or delete data and documents at any time in the respective company’s Portfolio section.

Bring in your investments and deal flow from other deal rooms

If you are a member of another deal room where you use the same Dealum account details to log in (typically your name and email), you can automatically bring the investments you have in those deal rooms into your personal Investor Plus portfolio and deal flow funnel. This option won’t be available to you if you are not a member of another Dealum deal room, or have deal room access using a completely different account.

You can view which other deal rooms you are a member of by clicking the home icon on the left hand navigation and viewing the list of deal rooms and plans.

Open your Investor Plus deal room and you will arrive in your personal Dashboard. Using the Getting Started section at the top of the page, click the next arrows (if it is not the first message you see) to arrive at Bring in your investments from other deal rooms and choose Import investments.

This will launch the following configurable box, which will allow you to select your chosen investments to import. You can simply keep all the pre-selected options configured as they are, click the box beside the deal room name (Dealum Angel Network in this example) to import all associated investments and click the blue Add company button to complete. Or you can choose a selection of your investments to add.

This is a step by step summary of the process to bring in a company from another deal room:

  • What to import, you can choose either Investment only (pre-selected) or Investment and company profile to bring in the original company application details if they were part of your deal flow funnel.
  • Select investments. Keep Has matching member investments as pre-selected as you are the matching member. If you uncheck this box you will see the full list of companies in that deal room, including ones you did not invest in. The other deal rooms you are a member of are listed, with the deal room name first and the investments you are part of in that deal room listed immediately below. In the above example, Dealum Angel Network is the deal room name and the three companies below it are the investments are my member investments in that deal room. If you are a member of multiple deal rooms these will be grouped and listed with the deal room name first and associated investments immediately below.
  • Click the check box beside the deal room name to automatically select all the associated investments. Or you can import a selection of one or more investments by clicking the check box directly beside the investment you wish to import.
  • Click Add # companies to complete the import.
  • You will receive an Import successful message. If the company is already in your portfolio using the same company name, the round information will not be duplicated and you will receive a message that the round was skipped (to avoid data duplication). If the investment is in a different currency to your main portfolio currency setting, you will also be informed a currency conversion has taken place.
  • Click OK to close the message.

You will land at the main Portfolio Investments page. Click on the Company name from the Investments list to access the respective company specific portfolio section and check the details.

In the specific company section of the portfolio you can edit, enhance or delete round and company information as required.
